“My son Roger has been learning playing the violin since age 6 and he will become a real teenager (13) this November. Over the years, he has had 3 private teachers, but his interest and self-motivation in learning the violin did not click until we found Mrs. Riegel. About 3 years ago, after seeing Roger making little progress while accumulating more and more resistance, I took the recommendation from a friend and switched Roger to Mrs. Riegel’s studio. Almost instantly, Roger was attracted by Mrs. Riegel’s teaching style which is individually customized and practically paced. While Roger’s previous teachers had been rushing through the Suzuki series, which Roger had frequently got frustrated because he lacked the skills of playing certain pieces, Mrs. Riegel focused on Roger’s basic skills. Initially, I was worried that this might be strongly resisted by Roger, a child who was already playing Suzuki book five and thinking he was nearly done learning violin. Thanks to Mrs. Riegel’s extraordinary patience, confidence, professionalism and remarkable communications skills with kids, this transition was accepted pleasantly by Roger. Roger quickly realized that he started making much better music even when playing the same pieces. This is proven to be an important turning point for Roger’s attitude towards violin. He is now practicing the violin regularly because he has the internal motivation to do so, no longer because I ask him to! This change could not have happened without Mrs. Riegel!…Mrs. Riegel is such an unselfish violin teacher who puts student’s development at the first priority!…We will always remember that the first teacher who really got Roger into violin is Mrs. Riegel.”

“Mrs. Riegel was the first teacher for our daughter Hannah and was the only teacher we needed…Mrs. Riegel’s streamlined teachings helps the student in every aspect of playing the violin. I have truly seen Hannah’s appreciation towards music grow and it is a real blessing to hear her play beautiful music inside the house… I know that Mrs. Riegel’s teaching has been at work, enabling my daugher and I to continue creating and enjoying music. Mrs. Riegel has been a positive and wonderful influence for Hannah and is a boon for every violinist.”

“My son has taken private violin lessons with Turid Riegel for four years. His proficiency on the violin has increased dramatically. While he has naturally matured, Turid has guided him with an expert hand in developing his potential as a violinist. With Turid’s help, my son was accepted into the chamber group at his middle school via a well-rehearsed audition performance. We have been very pleased with her abilities as a violin teacher.”

“We feel very blessed to have Turid as our daughter’s violin teacher. In three years, Lia has made tremendous progress. Turid uses a variety of methods both traditional and non-traditional which have helped Lia with not only her technique but her musicality as well. She connects well with Lia and although she has high expectations,Turid is always very kind and patient. Thank you for all you have done for Lia in her musical life. She would not be the player she is today without you.”

“Turid moves her students through their music at an ideal pace. The student masters the scales/pieces before progressing to the next ones, but doesn’t experience boredom from playing the same things repetitively week after week. She has high expectations and expects her students to come prepared to their weekly lessons. …Perhaps the best part about Turid’s teaching is the positive attitude she maintains no matter how many skills her student has not mastered since the last lesson. She corrects the mistakes after pointing out what the child did well. She frequently has a smile on her face and her demeanor is uplifting…”

“…Mrs. Riegel takes a holistic approach to instruction—students do not just get violin lessons, they get music education. She teaches from all angles: listening, playing, performing, posture/stance/position, technique, music theory, and so on. She includes a wide variety of violin literature in her instruction.”
“…Most importantly, I am impressed with her genuine concern about the students she teaches and making their music experience meaningful.”

” Since the first lesson we had with Mrs Riegel, she has always impressed us with her well organized and methodical approach to her teaching. She creates detailed teaching plan for each student according to their individual progress level and follows through on it…Mrs. Riegel also puts a lot of emphasis on teaching the basic skills…She would spend much time on correcting Angela’s posture, bow movement and fingering…Once Angela grasped these basic skills, her playing took off in a relatively short period time. This is testimony to Mrs Riegel’s concern about what’s good for her student in the long run.
Both Angela and I know we will truly miss a wonderful viola teacher. We highly recommend Mrs Riegel to be your child’s violin/viola teacher.”

"I've only studied under Mrs. Riegel for a year during my senior year of high school. The progress I have made with her is immense compared to the many years I spent with a previous teacher. I've been a member of the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra and Region Orchestra for several years. I began to realize I was lacking a lot of basic, fundamental playing skills from speeding too quickly through books and college level repertoire. I decided to go to a new teacher. I found this important instruction in the basics with Mrs. Riegel as we went back to proper position, shifting, vibrato, tone and many other techniques. Her attentiveness to these minute details brought about a drastic improvement in my playing. I can now tackle difficult pieces with ease and maturity. Moreover, she can pinpoint even the slightest of problems in my playing and quickly offer ingenious solutions as she aims to perfect my technique. She also made my progress her first priority and stayed very organized in planning out my individualized path with her. I was challenged at every lesson and she taught me novel ways to practice effectively at home. Above all, Mrs. Riegel's wisdom introduced me to a a deeper meaning in music brought about through style and emotion. She teaches an appreciation and passion for music that is key to becoming a better musician. "
